Roles and access
Understand how owner, tenant, board, liaison, property manager, and building manager roles affect what you can see and do.
Your role determines which building information and actions are available to you. Roles apply per building, so one person can have different access in different associations.
Normal VBC roles
| Role | Typical access |
|---|---|
| Owner | Owner-visible records, meetings, announcements, requests, directory information, and the owner’s unit. |
| Tenant | Tenant-visible records and the tenant’s unit or lease information. Some financial and ownership information is excluded. |
| Board member | Resident access plus building-management work for the assigned association. |
| Board liaison | Board-member-equivalent access for normal VBC workflows unless a specific action is restricted. |
| Property manager | Building-management work for assigned associations. |
| Building manager | Building-management work for assigned associations. |
Information is still limited by building
Having a management role in one building does not grant access to another building. VBC checks both the building and your active role before returning private records.
Why another person may see something you do not
- The two people have different roles.
- The record has a narrower audience.
- One person has access to a different building.
- The feature is enabled for only one building.
- Your unit, ownership, tenancy, or management assignment needs correction.
